Month Two

Two months down, and we are still alive…barely.

The second month proved to be much more demanding than the first. When we first brought the boys home all they did was sleep and I turned down help because I was busy, but not overwhelmed. Then as soon as the second month began, the boys woke up. Thank goodness my mom has come to the rescue multiple times a week! Both boys struggle being awake without being held, or having a binky in their mouth.

This past month we have experienced many sleepless nights, more crying than we can take at times, neglecting Ledger more than we would like to, a few breakdowns from all of us, and many joyful moments to counteract the difficult.

Personalities

• Cannon – Reminds me of Ledger.. a little more high strung. Already seems to react well to being on a schedule. Dislikes cuddling with Cruiz or laying next to him. He is always squirming, and from day one has always been very alert. Cannon usually eats first because he’s more impatient and usually eats faster than Cruiz.

• Cruiz- Reminds me of Preslee.. he has a lot of her same mannerisms and is more laid back and easy going – most of the time. But if you push his buttons he will explode, and his cry can be deafening. He loves to be cuddled, and will stare at Cannon the entire time while laying next to him. Cruiz burps much better than Cannon during each feeding.

 At Two Months…

You look more alike each day.

You are starting to be much more aware of each other.Your crying sets the other one off, and I still can’t tell your cries apart. You both can’t seem to function unless you are swaddled. (Older brother felt left out)

You both make the same weird noises that sound like Sandhill Cranes.

 After waking up, I stay busy until I put Ledger down around 2:00. Sometimes I have time to sit down and eat something, other days I stay busy and I’m ready to call it quits by the time Pat walks in the door. I can’t believe how much there is to do with three boys!

Dad calls you Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum.

You are still sleeping in your rock n’ plays in the front room, and have yet to sleep though the night. Which is a little frustrating because both of your older siblings were sleeping by now. I think you would be too if you didn’t have a twin. You two alternate who wakes up every night, and then I’m forced to wake the other to feed them as well. I didn’t wake the 2nd one up one time, and will NEVER do that again. Having two babies on two different schedules was a nightmare. Feeding both of you takes about an hour.

There have been a few times I’ve shut the bathroom door, turned up the music in hopes to drown the crying out just for a few minutes. Colic maybe?

You both failed your hearing screenings twice… due to fluid. Hoping it will clear up by 8 months. 

You are both wearing size 1 diapers, and packing away NB clothes is on top of my list when I can find some time.

Dad watched all three boys and I was childless for the first time. Those few hours were wonderful and I was able to recharge.

And though I feel like I might lose my mind at times, there are plenty of moments where I have to pinch myself to remind myself that these two little miracles are ours. I’m still amazed that my body grew two babies at one time. They are definitely worth all the hard work.
