April 17 – May 17
(The boys are officially 10 months old, updating what happened last month)
This past month has been fun! I finally understand why so many twin moms say everyone should be able to experience twins. (Before now, I thought they were nuts) Though it’s still a lot of work, tons of work, there is something different watching two babies interact. They really do have a special bond.
Size – The boys definitely don’t look like preemies, and have grown so well that the doctor officially took them off the preemie charts! Way to go boys!
With both boys reaching 20 lbs. we said goodbye to their carriers, and introduced car seats.
Cannon – has turned into such a happy little boy. He has three teeth, bottom two, and one on top, the fourth keeps trying to break through, and continues to go up and down. If anyone looks at him, he will flash a smile, and loves the attention. He is very aware of people, and loves both his brothers. He loves to pick an item up and carry it around in his mouth, just like his picture. We took the bink away months ago, but he carries it all around the house. He loves to mimic. If you shake your head “no” he’ll do it back, along with sticking out his tongue. He is such a sweet mellow little thing.
Cruiz – is definitely still a momma’s boy, and will usually be found wherever I am. He still spends his day with Cannon, but tends to follow me around the house. He seems to be more mobile, and is the one usually making messes. (He is definitely “seek” when we call them seek and destroy). He has become shy in public, and looks away, or just stares at strangers without smiling. That way, people are more drawn to Cannon, but I think he likes it that way. He has four teeth, and when he wants to eat, he doesn’t understand the word patience. I’m pleased he’s become the leader (at least for now) because I used to think he would let his brother walk all over him. Turns out I was wrong.
Schedule – This has changed our lives. We have a pretty set schedule, which I’m so grateful for. When the boys were crying, I purposely put them on different schedules, looking back, they didn’t spend a lot of time together. Now, they do everything together, and has created one strong bond.Interaction - In some ways, this month has been the easier than with my other two, because Cannon and Cruiz entertain each other. This month they have become inseparable. Personalities have flipped, and now Cannon is much more aware of Cruiz. Cruiz most often does his own thing, and Cannon seems to tag along. If they are near each other, they are usually touching. When they wake up from naps they now play and babble to one another.
Eating – These kids can slam food! They could eat all day. They eat three regular meals, and then have bottles in-between. I need to come up with more finger food ideas, it’s hard to find time to spoon feed them. They are funny when they eat. Cruiz has mastered picking up food with two fingers, Cannon on the other hand grabs a handful and stuffs it into his mouth. Cannon finishes way before Cruiz, and then cries because he wants more. They’ve yet to dislike anything I’ve given them.
Sleeping – (No judgment please. I know everyone has their own belief on this topic, but we feel we did what was best for our family). At the beginning of the month, the boys were still not sleeping! It didn’t matter how much we fed them before bed, they still woke up at night wanting to eat. We were feeding them veggies mixed with rice cereal, or even oatmeal at nights, then packing them with a 9-10 oz. bottle of rice cereal mixed with their formula. And no matter what, they would scream in the middle of the night for food. I asked for advice on FB, and the majority said to let them cry it out, so we decided it was time. We were hesitant, only because with all three in a room, most times if one wakes up, we have all of them up, which makes the situation even more stressful.
When I wanted to start the process, I noticed they were eating more than normal, and realized they were probably experiencing a growth spurt. Once that stopped, ironically, they began sleeping a little deeper, and we decided to let them cry it out. The first few nights were horrible, between the two, it seemed like we had a baby crying the entire night; but after five nights, they slept the entire night! We still have a few nights here and there that they wake up, but since making the change, both boys have been much happier, along with their momma. Yay for sleeping babies!
Sometimes Ledger feels left out :)
Time is sure flying by, I can’t believe we’re just a few months away from a year.
We love you two.
