27 Weeks Pregnant with Twins

On Monday I had my 27 week appointment, along with a glucose screening for gestational diabetes. My last two pregnancies I passed the glucose screening with flying colors, but this time I failed. They asked me to reschedule in the next few days for a 3 hour test.

I went in fasting Tuesday morning had 10 minutes to drink a glucose drink, which was twice as concentrated than the one I drank the day before – yuck! I had to wait three hours, and every hour they tested my blood sugar levels, I passed one, failed two, which means I officially have gestational diabetes. Ugh.

Life just became more hectic. Along with two growing babies (I’m now measuring 36 weeks) and kidney stones, (I’ve passed 6 this pregnancy) I now need to stay on a strict diet, keep a log, and test my blood sugar levels 4 times a day. Gestational diabetes often creates large babies, so I now have weekly Dr. appointments with more ultrasounds. I’m exhausted just typing it all out.

But I’d rather focus on the good news.

The ultrasound showed both babies looking healthy. One baby is measuring in the 74th percentile, and the other in the 72nd. They both weigh about 2 1/2 lbs each.

Baby A is still a show off, and makes it easy for the tech to take profile pictures. He’s still head down on my right side. Baby B has flipped and is curled up in a ball with his back facing us, making it nearly impossible to get any pictures. Dr. M says as long as Baby A is head down, a vaginal delivery is still an option.

My goal this week is to learn what I can eat and get used to pricking my finger 4 times a day. I’m trying to focus on the fact in 10 weeks we’ll have two sweet baby boys in our arms, who by the way, are still namelessSmile

P.S. Thank you for your concern about my iron level, my results came back normal.
