Cruiz stayed on very little oxygen, and the last week they brought in a different machine that would control the temperature and put more moisture into the oxygen hoping it would help. He didn’t make much progress and stayed at 23%.
Friday, my Grandpa asked if we would be interested in having a family fast for Cruiz,, I said definitely. Sunday night the nurse told me as I was leaving she was going to try to turn his oxygen level down to 22%. Monday morning I was hopeful he’d still be on 22%, so called the NICU to see. The conversation went like this:
Me: “I’m calling to check on Cruiz.”
Nurse: “Oh he’s doing great, he’s off.” (Very nonchalantly)
Me: “Off… oxygen?”
Nurse: “Yes.”
[This is where I became overly excited and freaked out]
Nurse: “We took him off at 3:00 A.M.”
Me: “So… if he can stay off oxygen until 3:00 A.M. that means he can come home?”
Nurse: “Yes.”
I was nervous the entire day, and finally made it up there later that evening. I watched the monitor the ENTIRE time, hoping he wouldn’t plummet. The nurses kept reassuring me he was fine. They performed his car seat challenge after I left, and Tuesday morning, August 6th, and 20 days old, Cruizer was discharged.
Just like that he turned the corner. I know it’s due to the many prayers and those who fasted for him. We are so grateful for so many of you.

I can’t even begin to explain how wonderful it is to have all 3 boys at home with us. It’s been so nice to be able to stay home ALL.DAY.LONG, and not have to head into town and leave anyone behind. I know in a few months I’ll probably be begging all of you to come get me out of the house, but for the next little while, I’m more than happy to stay put with these cute kiddos.
